Poker Primer

REGISTRATION:
All registrants must register themselves and all potential players require valid Government Issued ID showing proof of age(19+) and a Valid Student Card for ALL events. NO EXCEPTIONS, NO HELD SPOTS FOR PLAYERS THAT FORGET THEIR TWO PIECES OF IDENTIFICATION.

Registration begins one hours before start of event. You can pre-register for an event at the Registration page. You cannot register another individual.

The first 80 players that register (with ID) are guaranteed seats in the Tournament.

The Next 16 players to register (with ID) are placed on a waiting list and replace players that are eliminated from the Tournament. Players entering from the waiting list have chips removed from their starting stack prior to entering the Tournament - the chips do not go into play.

WAITING LIST PLAYERS:
Waiting list players always have one set of Blinds removed from their starting stack of 4000 every 20 minutes. If entering after the first 20 minutes: 75 will be removed from your starting stack. Second 20 minutes: 225 will be removed. Third 20 minutes: 525 will be removed.

The removed chips do not go into play.

Players do not post when they are seated unless the open spot is the Big Blind.

If seated in the Small Blind, the player waits until the button (deal) passes their position before being dealt a hand

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT:
Between 10 and 20 tournaments are held on campuses to determine a the top players. The top 5 finishers on the National Leaderboard will be invited to participate in the Red Hot Poker Tour "Tournament of Champions" in Toronto.

Blinds/Ante Levels Increase Every Twenty Minutes:

BETTING RULES:
MAXIMUM of four (4) raises per betting round.

MINIMUM BET is always the amount of the big blind.

MINIMUM RAISE is always DOUBLE the big blind. i.e. if the big blind is 50, the minimum raise is 100 up to All-In.

RAISES - Are always DOUBLE the amount of the previous bet or previous raise amount i.e. Player A bets 100, Player B must raise to 200 or if Player A bets 100 and Player B raises to 200, Player C can raise to 300 or more.

ALL-IN - When it is your turn to act, you can raise to ALL-IN (all your chips) at any time. A player that calls with more than all your chips only needs to put in the total of your chips. A player that calls with fewer chips than you can only win the total of their bet (you retain the difference if you lose).

SIDE POT - A player cannot win more than double the chips bet. If three players are in a hand, and one player goes ALL-IN , but does not put the other players ALL-IN, then a side pot is created. The two players that continue betting are competing for the side pot and the whole pot. If the ALL-IN player wins, they win the main pot, while the best hand of the two remaining players wins the side pot.

CHIP OUT - Chips valued at 25, 100, 500 will all be removed when they are no longer necessary.

TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR rulings are final

PLAY LIKE A PRO:
BEFORE THE FLOP, the first person to bet is always the player to the left of the big blind.

AFTER THE FLOP, the player to the left of the dealer (and still in the hand) begins all betting rounds.

Always discard ("burn") the first card off the top of the deck before dealing any card(s).

Place all folded cards and burn cards in a discard pile. To protect all players, no one is ever allowed to look at any card in the discard pile.

If you've folded, always wait until the hand is finished before you discuss your cards.

Always wait until it is your turn to act - don't bet or announce your intention before it is your turn.

When betting, count your chips out in front of you in a stack, state "bet" or "raise" and move them into the playing field. When all bets and raises are complete - push all chips to the centre of the table.

Always announce when you are going to raise, and state the amount.

Always concentrate and have your mind in the game. Be conscious of slow play that can reduce the number of hands people play in each round. Ask questions if necessary.

No String Bets. A player must state their intentions (Check, Bet, Call, Raise), the amount, and must place all chips required to satisfy your intentions in one motion. You cannot go back into your chips multiple times ("stringing" the bet).

Finally, don't sweat it if you lose, and be cool when you win, there is always another game around the corner and there is no telling when your luck will change.
